Restaurant Uses Promotional Plates to Serve up a Slice of Emotive Branding #CleverPromoGifts

One of the best things about working in the promotional gifts industry is discovering unusual and creative ways in which products are used to promote brands. And this campaign by Ogilvy and Mather to promote an Indian restaurant is one of the most unusual and creative I've seen.

A Bombay style cafe named Dishoom was due to open in London and wanted to attract Indians to eat there, knowing that this would be an excellent advert for the authentic Indian food they would be serving.

So, over a whole year, Ogilvy and Mather sent representatives to India to collect stories of the fantastic experiences to be had in Bombay cafes. Then, they printed the content onto plates to be used in the restaurant! Each story plate had its own unique design for diners to read.

Customers were further encouraged to get involved by writing about their own experiences and stories on postcards in the restaurant, and online. New plate designs are being added to the range all the time, and customers return frequently to see their own plates! Due to high levels of demand, Dishoom even decided to start selling the plates.
